Nordstrom
This bag is being sold in the US for over Rs 4000 on the Nordstrom website…
And the description says that it can fade and lose colour when wet so not to wear it with light colours.
Now, Nordstrom is like an aggregator of various brands and this item is listed on the website by Puebco…
Puebco is a Japanese company that is into handmade and recycled products for a generation that’s into sustainability and maximalist design.
It sells the idea of using recyclable products is cool, and how each product is from some part of the world, and being put to better use through their brand.
Of course this has already become a joke online, but it tells us something very interesting about the world at the moment…
Consumerism in the world has reached such levels that people are ready to pay any price if you deliver a product with a story.
There are people who can laugh at those buying the story, like the Japanese would laugh at our craze of matcha…
Or have a wild imagination and sell stories to those with money.
Because here’s the thing about people who have a lot of money…
They realise that money doesn’t necessarily bring all the happiness in the world…
And consumerism helps fill a void of identity in them, and makes them keep going, one day at a time.
Helping them live another day is quite a work of ethics if you ask me… and I wouldn’t say is making a fool out of anyone.
Because the only difference between commodity margins and those high margins of a brand is a great story.
[22:16, 5/23/2025] Shailesh shanbag: Introducing INSV Kaundinya...... Kaundinya is the first Indian mariner, who we know by name, to have crossed the seas to visit SE Asia. He married a local Naga princess and founded the kingdom of Funan, the first historically attested Indianised kingdom, in what is now Cambodia/South Vietnam. The “Gandaberunda” or two headed bird on the sail was the royal insignia of the Kadamba kingdom who ruled the Konkan coast for centuries. Appropriate as the ship was built in Goa and inducted in Karwar. The symbol survives, via the Vijayanagar empire and Mysore kingdom, in the state symbol of Karnataka.
The ship was formally inducted into the Indian Navy today by the Hon. Minister of Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat
