[22:05, 7/5/2025] Shailesh shanbag: India-born CEO-led Microsoft has closed its operations in Pakistan after 25 years, marking a significant exit from the Indian neighbour.

The move, which took effect on July 3, 2025, ends the company’s direct presence that began on March 7, 2000.

While Microsoft has not yet released an official statement explaining the decision, former Microsoft Pakistan founding country head Jawwad Rehman confirmed the development in a LinkedIn post, stating, “The last few remaining employees were formally informed and just like that, an era ends.”

“This is more than a corporate exit. It’s a sobering signal of the environment our country has created, one where even global giants like Microsoft find it unsustainable to stay,” he wrote.

He also pointed to the country’s economic and political instability as contributing factors.
